Sydney ruckman Peter Ladhams is set for a stint on the sidelines for his hit on Hawthorn youngster Calsher Dear.

During Friday's VFL season opener at Dingley, Ladhams made no play at the ball, instead preparing for a bump and lifting his elbow, which clipped Dear on the way through.

The young Hawk was sent from the ground, with the umpire calling a blood rule. Dear underwent a head injury assessment (HIA) but has been cleared of any concussion.

AFL-listed Swan in trouble for hit on young Hawk

Ladhams came into consideration for the senior side due to the Hawks continuing with ruck duo Lloyd Meek and Ned Reeves, but was ultimately overlooked as Corey Warner and Caiden Cleary replaced the injured Errol Gulden and Isaac Heeney.

Ladhams' likely layoff comes as Sydney depth ruckman Will Green has suffered a foot injury after a freak accident at the MCG on Thursday night. slipping on a set of stairs and breaking a bone in his foot.

Green was sent for scans on Friday morning on the injured foot, with the tall set to miss a large chunk of football.

A host of Swans put their name up for senior selection following strong performances in the reserves.

Taylor Adams (27 disposals, nine tackles, five clearances and a goal) and Harry Cunningham (24 possessions and seven marks) were arguably the club's best, while small forward pair Jesse Dattoli and Tom Hanily found plenty of the ball in the front half and hit the scoreboard.
