The AFL has handed down a five-year ban to a Sydney Swans member for hurtling a soft drink bottle at Hawthorn players during Thursday night's thriller at the MCG.
The MCC has also banned the offender from all events for five years, while the Swans have have torn up his membership.
The following statement was provided by the league to Zero Hanger.
"The AFL confirms the patron that threw a soft drink bottle onto the field towards Hawthorn players at the conclusion of the Hawthorn vs Sydney Swans match at the MCG on Thursday night has been given a five-year ban. "Victoria Police has also issued the patron an infringement notice for the alleged incident. The patron is also a Vic-based Sydney Swans member, with the club confirming that membership will be cancelled.
"AFL Head of Security and Integrity Tony Keane said: "Footy fans are the best fans in the world, but throwing objects at players will never be acceptable and if caught, you will lose the privilege of being able to attend the footy for a period of time."
"The MCC has also banned the patron from all MCC events for 5 years."
On Friday, Hawthorn livewire Nick Watson spoke on Nova Radio of the incident, which prompted AFL and Police investigation.
"They were throwing Coke Zero cans out there … I saw one just go straight past me," Watson said.
"I dunno what happened with the guy but … it just landed right next to us.
"Lucky it didn't hit any players, but yeah, a few players saw it.
"I mean, I was giving them heaps, but I'm not sure a Coke Zero bottle to the face in return would've been nice."
