Collingwood father-son prospect Tom McGuane has had an interesting year across his Vic Metro, Western Jets and Collingwood VFL commitments.
Largely a midfielder at the Western Jets, he averaged 28 disposals at the Coates Talent League level in 2025, where his exceptional footy IQ, composed decision-making and quick and clean hands around the stoppage all came to the fore.
His exceptional work rate helps him rack up the footy and he has the vision to look to pull off some creative options by foot. He was then played on the wing during the U18s National Championships, with that position potentially where he starts his senior career.
Despite being lower volume than some of his teammates, he showed some signs of his talent and certainly proved his discipline and adaptability to fill different roles.
Was a touch quieter during his stint for Collingwood VFL but has shown an ability to use his smarts and skill to match it at senior level for local club Keilor, which plays in the well-regarded Essendon District Football League competition.
McGuane might not have the speed of some of his contemporaries, but he has an innate way of putting himself in the right positions, especially around stoppage, is positionally flexible and gets a lot of leg whip in his kicking action, which makes it harder to read where he's going and, critically, gives him great penetration.

He has a brilliantly balanced skillset, with a bid likely to come later in the AFL Draft, so the son of 152-game premiership Magpie Mick could prove to be a bargain pickup for the powerhouse preliminary finalists.
