Adelaide have stated the club "won't trade for the sake of trading" amid negotiations with Brisbane over a deal that would see two-time premiership Lion Callum Ah Chee join the Crows.

Ah Chee has requested a trade to West Lakes following a pair of flag-winning seasons in Queensland, with the 28-year-old even polling seven votes for last year's Norm Smith Medal.

Having seen his contract reach its conclusion this year, Ah Chee will have little resistance from the Lions in his pursuit of a move to South Australia, but talks between Brisbane and Adelaide have still drawn out close to deadline day of the trade period.

The Crows hold selections 16, 48, 55, 57, 73 and 75 for this year's AFL Draft, and can use picks for the 2026 and 2027 counts.

Brisbane are said to be eyeing Pick 16 in a trade for Ah Chee, which Adelaide are understood to have rebuffed in negotiations, leading list manager Justin Reid to make his thinking clear.

"We're obviously very keen to get Callum to the Club given he's expressed an interest to join us," Reid told the club's media arm.

"He's given great service to the Lions and as a childhood Crows fan, we're excited to bring him into the four walls. We want to strike a deal that's fair for all parties.

"Every year we're looking to explore our options and 2025 has been no different. As a club however, we certainly won't trade for the sake of trading."

Brisbane's recruitment drive has finished ahead of this week, having signed Oscar Allen and Sam Draper as free agents, as well as striking a trade deal that saw them net Picks 16 (now 17) and 22 (now 23), among other selections, and send Brandon Starcevich to West Coast.

If the Lions are to hold firm on wanting Pick 16 from Adelaide, they may need to send a valuable selection to the Crows along with Ah Chee, with Brisbane possessing Picks 17, 23, 44, 45, 51, 56, 68 and 79 for this year's draft.

Brisbane will need a bevy of later selections to ensure they can match a bid for top-rated Academy talent Dan Annable at the draft, with the teenager viewed as a potential top five pick.

Ah Chee has played 169 AFL games, 124 of which have come with Brisbane since crossing over from Gold Coast at the end of the 2019 season.
