The AFL has handed fines to the Adelaide Football Club and Crows players totalling $15,000 after a pair of forwards were found to have worn metal stops in their boots.
It has been revealed that both Josh Rachele and Ben Keays wore metal stops despite the league recently warning clubs about the dangers of the boot studs.
Adelaide was issued a please explain from the AFL after the league-wide warning, with Rachele and Keays found to have worn the dangerous boot stops after the AFL's message.
Keays has been revealed to have worn metal stops four more times, with Rachele doing so on two occasions.
The AFL has fined Keays $5000 and Rachele $2500 for their wrongdoings, while Adelaide have been handed a $7500 fine.
"Player health and safety is paramount to the AFL and the wearing of metal stops poses a significant injury risk to other players," AFL football operations boss Laura Kane said in a statement.
โDisappointedly, despite multiple warnings, the players elected to wear the incorrect football boots.โ
The league has stated that the fine handed to Adelaide will not be part of the club's soft cap.
