VFL club Sandringham have released a statement in the wake of proposed changes from aligned AFL side St Kilda seeking the Zebras to play in the red, white and black and host home games at Moorabbin.

Sandringham, which has been part of the VFA/VFL competition for close to 100 years, has been affiliated with the Saints since 2009, while the club was previously tied to the Melbourne Demons.

The Zebras and Saints looked to strengthen their alignment ahead of the 2024 season, with the AFL club pledging to use one of its rookie list spots at the end of last year to recruit a player out of the VFL pathways program.

St Kilda did not end up adding a Sandringham player to their list, instead using the National Draft to select six prospects to fill their list.

The Saints have since looked to further align the two clubs in proposing the Zebras wear St Kilda colours and play home games at RSEA Park, per News Corp, with Sandringham resisting the concept in favour of remaining in the black, gold and blue at Trevor Barker Beach Oval.

On Friday, Sandringham president Nick Johnstone released a statement to confirm the Zebras are "adamant" they won't change colours or venue and will continue to work "in the best interest" of the club.

"In protecting our 96 year history we are adamant that we remain in our colours, play at our home ground Wilson Storage Trevor Barker Beach Oval and remain as the Zebras," Johnstone said.

"We will continue to work through the future of our alignment with St Kilda and every decision we make well be in the best interest of the Sandringham Football Club.

"These proposed changes are for our alignment next year. The 2025 VFL and VFLW alignment remains as is."

Sandringham, who were founded in 1929, have won 10 premierships during their time in the VFA/VFL, their most recent coming in 2006 - a title that capped off three consecutive flags during their time with the Demons.

St Kilda great Brendon Goddard has stepped into the senior coaching role at the Zebras this year, succeeding departed ex-Tiger Jake Batchelor, who has since taken the top role with Richmond's VFL program.

The Zebras, who have not played finals since 2016, have recorded one win in their first four games this year.
