Geelong star Bailey Smith couldn't help himself when the Cats prevailed over Collingwood at the MCG by three points in front of 82,154 fans, immediately comparing it to his former club's outing in Ballarat at MARS Stadium.

Earlier on Saturday, the Western Bulldogs thrashed Port Adelaide in the regional town by 90 points, with only a measly 4,814 supporters flocking to the venue.

The number was reduced by the ongoing construction at the stadium, which is set to be completed at the end of 2026, causing outrage among fans.

In a post-match interview with Fox Footy's Cam Mooney, Smith couldn't contain his joy at his second club.

"Very grateful to be where I am. They've welcomed me with open arms, so I'm just forever in debt to this club," Smith said.

"I'll keep working my arse off to repay them and I'm doing what I love doing, and that's competing regardless if we win, lose or draw. I'm just happy, can't really lose."

Former Geelong forward Cam Mooney replied: "How good is it, 82,000 versus Collingwood on a Saturday night at the โ€˜G โ€” how good's that?"

Smith jumped at the chance to make a slight jibe at his former teammates' match earlier in the day, played at MARS Stadium in front of 4,814 (due to construction).

"It's beautiful, mate. Not getting that at Ballarat," he said.

Smith was at his brilliant best, collecting 34 disposals, one goal, five clearances and 715 metres gained.

But in a perfect return serve, Bulldogs captain Marcus Bontempelli, who attended Channel 7's Sunrise on Sunday morning, insinuated the reasoning behind Smith's "disappointment", pointing to his multiple indiscretions during his time at the Cats.

"It's nice to know we're still on Bailey's mind. You know, he's still thinking about us even at another team. And, you know, in the end, there's probably a few less people down in Ballarat for him to flip the bird to," Bontempelli said.

"So maybe that's why he's a little bit disappointed."

Smith has been fined on two separate occasions for an obscene gesture. Once during the Adelaide clash in Gather Round, and then on Easter Monday towards Hawthorn fans.

Although receiving extra attention from the MRO, Geelong coach Chris Scott has said previously that the club is "committed to embracing it".

The two clubs are set to face one another in Round 11 at GMHBA Stadium on Thursday night.
