Melbourne's Luke Jackson has claimed the NAB Rising Star Award, edging out Giant Tom Green for the honours.

Jackson sat atop the podium, with Green in second and Port Adelaide young gun Mitch Georgiades in third.

The award has always been a cherished honour for future stars of the game but has taken on even more value in recent years with the likes of Caleb Serong, Sam Walsh, Andrew McGrath and Callum Mills winning it in recent years.

The race for this year's award has been hotly contested and debated, with Tom Green, Luke Jackson, Cody Weightman, Errol Gulden and Mitch Georgiades all having brilliant seasons respectively.

Recently the award has been rather one sided but this year there has been periods where all five of the above have put their hand up for the plaudits.
