Port Adelaide The Power had plenty of positives in 2020, with one of their shining gems coming in the form of defender Darcy Byrne-Jones. The dashing half-back flanker took out the 2020 John Cahill Medal after a year that saw him rise to the occasion. Byrne-Jones also managed to earn his first All-Australian selection after rising to become one of the league's elite defenders. Guthrie thrived in a competitive Cats midfield, beating out superstar Patrick Dangerfield and Coleman medallist Tom Hawkins for the honours. The grizzly onballer took his game to new heights in 2020, becoming an elite two-way runner in the guts and out on the wing. McDonald transformed into an accountable and clean footballer this season after bouncing back from an ankle injury that riddled his 2019 campaign. On top of the best and fairest honours, McDonald claimed three other awards to cap off a stellar season in the blue and white. Haynes was awarded with his maiden All-Australian selection after a stunning season in the Giants defence, while Whitfield claimed his second best and fairest with the club. The Giants have now had nine separate club champion winners in as many years following the inauguration into the AFL in 2012. Short has been an underrated asset to the Tigers in 2020 and has been recognised for his efforts after an improved season this year. The Club Champion has endured two major knee injuries in his career, making this award that touch more special. Ryan took on a number of roles in the Dockers' backline in 2020, locking down a number of opposition key forwards whilst offering plenty of relief at half-back. The prolific defender played all 17 games for Fremantle and led the league in rebound 50's. Neale was crowned as the Brownlow medallist after a history season with the Lions, also taking home the AFLPA and AFLCA MVP's as well as All-Australian honours. Adams averaged over 22 disposals, five tackles and five clearances in 2020 and sat atop the best and fairest podium alongside captain Scott Pendlebury and Jack Crisp. The Magpies midfielder also took home the Gavin Brown Award for pressure, adding to his All-Australian selection. Daniel flourished in the Doggies back-line this year, averaging over 20 disposals per game and playing in all 18 matches for his side in 2020. The gritty defender has become one of the AFL's most accurate users of the ball and now places himself in Bulldogs history as a Best and Fairest winner. Gunston enjoyed a shining 2020 campaign, winning an All-Australian squad nomination and finishing tied-third in the Coleman Medal race. While many of their younger players stood up when it mattered most, 26-year-old Sam Collins led the team from the back after a strong 2020 season. Collins ranked top five in the league for intercept marks and was nominated for the AFLPA's MVP Award and Most Courageous Award by his peers. To cap off a fantastic year, Collins won Club Champion honours with the Suns after a breakout season. The club struggled to land points on the board as they entered a deep re-build, but while their list came under great scrutiny, a number of leaders stood up in trying times. Reilly O'Brien was one player to battle on through a tumultuous season, with the ruckman being rewarded for his efforts with the Malcolm Blight Medal. Defender Steven May had a spectacular season in the red and blue, leading from the back, while captain Max Gawn earned All-Australian honours for 2020. The Demons midfield flourished in 2020, with with Jack Viney, Clayton Oliver and Christian Petracca dominating in the engine room. The latter crowned off a stellar campaign as the club's best and fairest for 2020. One shining light for Essendon this season came through Jordan Ridley, with the inexperienced defender rising to stardom as one of the league's best ball-users and most poised players. Ridley had played just the nine games before 2020 and ended the year with 26 matches to his name, becoming the fourth most inexperienced Bomber to take home the Crichton Medal.
