Roos midfielder Sam Gibson injured in gym accident

North Melbourne midfielder Sam Gibson is in doubt for this week’s clash with Sydney after suffering a broken nose and facial injuries during a training mishap in the gym on Wednesday.

Gibson dropped a barbell on his head after slipping in the club gym, resulting in a broken nose and and a gashed face.

Coach Brad Scott said he is optimistic Gibson can still recover in time to line-up on Saturday afternoon.

“He’s not OK, he’s pretty sore at the moment,” Scott said.

“But the fortunate thing was it happened here, it happened with our club doctor here and he was sent to hospital just to rule out any facial fractures, which he’s clear of.

“He’s a bit uncomfortable but we’re still really optimistic he’ll be available to play this week.”
