A right hamstring halted St Kilda SSP trialist Oskar Ainsworth's quest for a list spot at Moorabbin.
Ainsworth's injury opens the door for five-game former Essendon player Tex Wanganeen, the cousin of star Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera, to claim the final list spot.
After spending 2022-2024 at Essendon, Wanganeen played for VFL club Port Melbourne in 2025.
Wanganeen's pre-season has been interrupted by a shoulder injury, with St Kilda having until February 20 before the SSP closes.
The Saints have the option of inviting another player to compete for the final list spot with Wanganeen.
Ainsworth, a powerful forward who last year represented Western Jets and Vic Metro, was trialing for St Kilda's final list position alongside Wanganeen across summer, but a hamstring injury in December stalled him and he suffered a similar injury when he returned to training in mid-January.
It's understood Ainsworth has avoided surgery but is set for three months on the sidelines.
He is set to sign for St Kilda's VFL side.
