Sydney Stack's fantastic first year may not be over just yet.

The Richmond young gun has been out of action for the past month with an ankle injury that required surgery, but has been named in Richmond's VFL grand final clash this weekend against Williamstown despite being listed as unavailable by the Tigers earlier in the week on their official injury list.

Stack will still need to prove his fitness on Friday though if he is to suit up.

If Richmond eventually makes the grand final and Stack proves he is ready, a massive selection story could be in the wings.

Coach Damien Hardwick doesn't want to look too far ahead though.

"I think I will cross that bridge when I get to it," Hardwick told the media on Thursday.

"He's a great player, he's a big-game player.

"But he's also coming off a pretty significant injury as well, so we'll cross our fingers and hope he gets through,

"If we get to make that decision it's a good one to make."

Stack has played 19 games in 2019 and has had a brilliant year, finishing 3rd in the NAB AFL Rising Star voting.
