Hawthorn's James Worpel may not feature again this season after suffering a shoulder injury during Round 16's loss to GWS, per reports from AFL.com.au.

The 23-year-old dislocated his right shoulder during Sunday's match, with scans reportedly confirming that the young midfielder will require a shoulder reconstruction.

Hawthorn are reportedly considering delaying Worpel's surgery until after Round 23, allowing the Hawk to play again this season, a similar situation to that of teammate Ned Reeves earlier in the year.

Worpel has had an up and down season in brown and gold so far, only regaining his spot in Sam Mitchell's side in Round 15 after spending a month in the VFL.

At senior level this year, Worpel has averaged 15.4 disposals and 2.9 clearances per match, with his comeback game against the Western Bulldogs ending with an impressive 25 disposals and seven clearances.

The Hawks currently have two players on their long term injury list, with Tyler Brockman (shoulder) and Seamus Mitchell (ankle) both ruled out for the season.

With a winnable fixture against the Adelaide Crows on Sunday afternoon, the Hawks will be without Will Day, who was handed a one-week ban from the MRO for forceful front-on contact.
