Essendon youngster Isaac Kako is full of optimism about the club's future prospects, which played a significant factor in his decision to sign an extension.

Kako put pen to paper on a deal last week, locking him away until the end of 2029, reaffirming his faith with the Bombers as they attempt to successfully rebuild.

The livewire was drafted via the club's NGA program and is currently living out his lifelong dream of donning the red sash, a team he grew up supporting.

"To be honest, there was never going to be a question of whether I did or not," Kako said.

"I was very happy too. The club was very happy too. As soon as we could get that going, then I was happy to put pen to paper.

"I think the young group and the amount of optimism I hold for us. Everyone is really driving each other, and the younger boys are driving the older boys, which is a very good sign.

"I think we have heaps to give in the future, even this year. I think we're closer than people think we are."

Kako's extension is all but aligned with long-time friend and fellow forward Nate Caddy's current contract, with the exciting tall locked away until the end of 2028.

Caddy has shown tremendous upside in his 27 games to date, exciting the Bombers fans that he can be the focal point of the front half for the next decade.

And with Kako riding shotgun, the dynamo forward believes the pair can be the best duo in the league.

"I played with Nate for about seven years, growing up together," Kako added.

"We played our first year together last year, it was a bit of a struggle for the team. I think once we get going, I do think personally, we could be one of the best duos in the league.

"Whether that's now or in the future, that's something we can achieve.

"He'd be one of the hardest matchups in the AFL with his athletic profile and how fit he is.

"He's a special talent. He's a special person as well. He can be one of the best key forwards in the league, for sure. And we'll see that from him in the near future."
