Former Melbourne great Garry Lyon has tipped Collingwood to win the 2020 premiership.

Originally predicting West Coast to go all the way during the pre-season, Lyon now favours the Pies to claim their 16th flag and first since 2010.

Collingwood got their 2020 season off to a flyer, belting the Western Bulldogs by 52 points to sit second on the ladder as the competition was shutdown due to the COVID-19 crisis.

Speaking on SEN Breakfast, Lyon is strongly encouraged by the Magpies' potent forward line.

“Collingwood are my tip for the flag, I’ve changed,” Lyon said.

“We think they are in very good shape and a forward line with (Jordan) De Goey, Jamie Elliott and Jaidyn Stephenson back, I think it’s going to be absolutely fine.”

Nathan Buckley's side fell one kick short of lifting the trophy in 2018, then bowed out in the preliminary final last year, again by a single kick.

A blockbuster Collingwood vs Richmond clash is expected to restart the season on Thursday June 11.
