West Coast young gun Elijah Hewett has been left to nurse a calf complaint after leaving the training track on Friday.

The ailment came prior to Hewett's chance to feature in the Eagles' match simulation session, with the club confirming the former first-round pick is dealing with calf tightness.

Hewett had copped a cork to the leg earlier in the week, with the latest issue prompting further concern for the fourth-year midfielder.

The extent of the calf injury isn't expected to significantly limit the remainder of Hewett's pre-season.

West Coast were without Brady Hough for the session as the young defender battles illness, adding to the list of absent options a month out from the club's opening match of the pre-season.

Recruit Brandon Starcevich, who has been selected for AFL Origin in mid-February, is dealing with a knee issue, while Jack Hutchinson (ankle), Fred Rodriguez (foot), Sam Allen (knee), Bailey Williams (groin) and Tom Cole (finger) have also made up the rehab group this summer.

Friday saw young tall Harry Barnett featured in his first full training session after recovering from a PCL injury.

West Coast will meet with Fremantle at Cockburn on February 21 for a match simulation bout before its Community Series clash with Port Adelaide on March 1.
