The West Coast Eagles have backflipped on their decision to challenge Liam Duggan's one-game suspension for rough conduct, advising the AFL on Tuesday that they have instead accepted the sanction.

The league's Match Review Officer handed down the charge to Duggan on Sunday evening for his dangerous tackle on Collingwood's Taylor Adams from Saturday's match at Optus Stadium, with the incident in question graded as careless conduct, high contact and medium impact.

While the Eagles had initially decided to contest the charge in the hope of freeing Duggan for their Round 13 clash with Adelaide, the club decided on Tuesday they have instead accepted the charge.

The club confirmed that Duggan has recently become ill and had been admitted to hospital this week.

Duggan was expected to face the AFL Tribunal on Tuesday night at approximately 6:15pm (AEST) following Jordan De Goey's hearing for rough conduct.

"The West Coast Eagles has advised the AFL it has accepted the sanction against Liam Duggan as set out by the Match Review Officer and discontinued proceedings with the Tribunal hearing scheduled for Tuesday afternoon," an AFL statement read.

The upheld suspension will mean Duggan won't be avaivle for selection to face the Crows on Saturday, with a return now scheduled June 24 against the Swans following the club's Round 14 bye.

De Goey's case at the AFL Tribunal is set to take place at 5:00pm.
