Wayne Carey declares Cats can win the 2019 premiership

Former Kangaroos great Wayne Carey believes that Geelong are capable of making a premiership tilt in 2019.

Questions are being asked of the Cats, including their list profile and game plan, following a disappointing elimination final loss to the Demons last weekend.

But Carey does not think it is time to push the panic button.

"I don't think that they're completely broken," he told Triple M.

"I think they do have to look at the way they play. I think they've almost lost their identity in a way. It is difficult to figure out what they are trying to do.

"They've got some superstars, I think they've got a pretty good list.

"In terms of going backwards to go back to the draft, I don't subscribe to that. I don't think they're that far away.

"I think they're capable of playing finals again next year and have a tilt at the premiership."

Carey concluded that if the Cats can do what Richmond did in 2016 and bring in impact players of Toby Nankervis, Josh Caddy Dion Prestia's ilk, they "elevate themselves straight into a premiership contender".
