Tigers ruckman Toby Nankervis has put in a dominant performance in Richmond's stunning come-from-behind two-point win in Saturday's qualifying final VFL clash against Essendon.

Nankervis kicked the match-winning goal in the final minute to see Richmond run over the top of Essendon, trailing by a stunning 40 points at three quarter time.

It capped off a big day at the office for the 25-year old, tallying 22 disposals and 33 hit-outs in just 70 per cent game time in his return from a groin injury.

Nankervis was awarded a free kick in front of goal in the dying seconds, kicking truly to send the Tigers into the preliminary final in a fortnight's time.

It firmly puts him in the senior selection frame for Saturday's huge qualifying final clash against Brisbane at the Gabba.

Tigers football manager Neil Balme said they may even opt to play Nankervis and Ivan Soldo in the same team.

“My gut feel is that we might even play both,” Balme told the Herald Sun.

“He (Nankervis) kicked the goal, which probably helps too. We might think about playing him forward a bit maybe.

“But we haven’t thought it through completely.”
