Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin says he is confident co-captain Jack Viney will line up for the clubs first final in 12 years in two weeks time.

Viney has not played since Round 16 as he struggles with a toe injury that also hampred him in 2017.

In good news for Demons fans, Goodwin said Viney will train with the main group this week.

"He’s travelling really positively," Goodwin told SEN.

"He’s really ramped up his training, he’s progressing really strongly and he had a spring in his step after the game last night, I’ll give you the hot tip.

"His whole preparation has been around getting right for the first final, so that hasn’t changed.

"He’ll continue to build his loads, he’ll join the main group this week and get another two weeks of training.

"He’ll be cherry ripe to go."

The Demons face GWS at the MCG on Sunday, with victory giving them a home final.
