Delisted Demon Oscar McDonald is expected to receive an invitation to Carlton's pre-season training, reports The Herald Sun's Matt Turner.

The Blues are weighing up throwing a lifeline to the key defender after he was let go by Melbourne last month.

AFL Media's Mitch Cleary reported last month that Carlton were interested in McDonald as well as former Saint Jonathon Marsh.

The Blues are currently working through their pre-season invitations, and while McDonald is yet to officially receive his letter, it is expected that he will.

The 24-year old has played 81 AFL games for the Demons since making his debut in 2015.

He enjoyed a career-best year in Melbourne's preliminary final run in 2018, but has since fallen out of favour.

The backman made just seven senior appearances in 2020.
