Two fans have were ejected during the pre-game of Friday night's clash between Collingwood and Hawthorn at the MCG for unfurling political banners.

The posters were promoting climate change, with one reading: "Emergency workers: Climate chaos frontline" and the other: "Declare a climate emergency."

The banners breached Section 5 of the AFL's admission rules that state disallow fans from bringing political advertisements into games.

The MCC revealed the following statement on the matter:

“The banners were brought into the ground covertly and they were unfurled following the celebration of the Emergency Services.”

“Security and police subsequently removed the banners and those responsible were escorted from the ground.”
