Australian Football Hall of Fame inductee Terry Wallace has named the two best AFL footballers he's ever seen.

Speaking on SEN over the weekend, Wallace looked back through the history of time in football, which dates back 40 years.

Wallace has played and coached at the highest level, and says Leigh Matthews and Wayne Carey were the two players who stood out among the pack.

“I’ve got two that have stood out in the 40 years for me and Leigh Matthews was one of them,” Wallace told SEN Evenings.

“He kicked 900 goals and most of that time he played on-ball.

“I remember it was last year, we went to the MCG and it was for a Monday game, but someone asked Leigh a question, did you play on Easter Monday?

“He said I think only once, and we went back and had a look at the record and he had 40 touches and kicked 11 goals. That’s just crazy stuff.

“So Leigh and Wayne Carey.

“Matthews and Carey to me drove their sides to premierships and absolute success.”
