The top five upsets of 2018

Following the Bomber's impressive 28-point win over the Eagles at Optus Stadium last night, we have recounted the biggest upsets of the 2018 season. And considering the amount upcoming one-sided affairs in round 14, we could be set for another one or two! Other than the Power's clash with the Demons, every game has a clear favourite. Here are the biggest upsets of the 2018 AFL season: Honourable mention: Hawthorn def. Melbourne (Round 4) MCG - Hawthorn 18.7 (115) def. Melbourne 6.12 (48) - Hawks by 67 A lot of fans had the Demons as a lock for their top eight, following their disappointing end to last season. With a new year ahead, fans were almost certain Melbourne were going to show up and play to win; Unfortunately, they didn't. Suffering one of the worse losses of the season, the Demons were on the cusp of facing some serious backlash. (Photo by Daniel Pockett/AFL Media/Getty Images)[/caption] Honourable mention: Sydney def. by Port Adelaide (Round 2) SCG - Sydney 10.11 (71) def. by Port Adelaide 14.10 (94)- Power by 23 Beating the Swans at any ground that early in the season is a tremendous feat, to do it at the SCG was something special. The Power cemented themselves as one the league's elite teams as they took down a very strong Swans outfit in their own backyard. Bombers 10.18 (78) - Blues by 13 Coming off seven straight losses, Carlton fans started to worry if their team would be able to pick up a win for the entire season. Fortunately for them, it was in round eight that the tears stopped streaming and they were able to celebrate against their old rivals; even if it was just for a week. Hawthorn 11.7 (73)- Lions by 56 Much like the Blues the previous week, it was the first time the Brisbane faithful saw their team pick up a victory in 2018. It all came to an end in round nine, as Luke Hodge got one over his old teammates in their first meeting at the Gabba. Geelong 7.8 (50)- Bombers by 34 It was a game no one saw coming, Following their shock loss to the Blues in round eight, the Bombers took down a side at the other end of the table, Geelong, in a dominating fashion. And further complicated the enigma that was the 2018 Bombers. Essendon again, as has been the story of their unpredictable season. The Bombers pantsed the Eagles at their Optus Stadium fortress, who despite being without star forwards Josh Kennedy and Jack Darling, were made to look second rate. And it might have even revived the Bombers' season. Another Swans' SCG loss had fans in shock, while the Kangas, who many thought were a bottom three side, cemented themselves as a finals contender.
