There are a number of teams that are fighting for a finals berth this year as seemingly year-on-year the list grows of teams that can sneak into the eight.
Richmond, West Coast, Geelong, Brisbane and Port Adelaide loom as the most likely to dominate top four discussions, but who are the boomers coming from the cellar for a top eight slot?
The trend with most teams in this cluster is that consistency isn't their best friend, hence why they finish just about square at the ledger.
So, we have decided to take you through why each team in this group can, and maybe more importantly, can't make finals.
7. St Kilda
Why they can
They made it last year and it seems their list has only improved. The additions of Jack Higgins and Brad Crouch look solid. They should also see natural improvement from the likes of Nick Coffield, Hunter Clark and Max King to name a few.

Brad Hill is another key player who should go up another level in 2021. Shorter quarters last year essentially took away his greatest strength; endurance. With more time on-field he will be able to wear down opponents and become a very large threat in attack for the Saints.
Why they can't
Injuries have been a killer this pre-season for the Saints. Ben Patton will miss the season with a broken leg, Rowan Marshall and Jarryn Geary will miss the start of the season, while Zak Jones is in a race to be fit for the games proper.

They are also more vulnerable now as teams will be weary of the fast running Saints. Their small forwards caught teams out last year who opted to play a high line of defence. Expect teams in 2021 to hold their defence back and not allow the likes of Dan Butler and Jade Gresham so much room to run into.
Teams will be more prepared to stop the Saints who seemingly didn't have a great plan B for when they were unable to score through their preferred avenues.
