Sports commentary is a tough gig. It requires a blend of knowledge and personality to ascend to the country's elite in any code - and no code has more moving parts than Australian rules football.
As the footy public has seen in recent days, however, it's a ruthless gig too. A veteran of the game, and member of this top ten, has found himself out of a calling chair, as one broadcaster looks to go in a different direction.
Who are some some of those who've become beloved staples in our weekend watching and listening routines? And what are their greatest strengths?
We cast our verdict as to the ten best callers covering the great game.
7Jason Bennett
A topical inclusion, Jason Bennett reminded the AFL world of his chops with multiple signature moments in the last few seasons.
His memorably strained call of Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera's heroics last season, and his empassioned call of the final moments of Scott Pendlebury's nail-biting 400th game in 2024 were timely indicators of the veteran's skillset.
However, after more than a decade with Seven, Bennett has been sensationally dropped from their calling stable ahead of the 2026 season, leading to fan outrage on social media, and favourable comparisons to some of those still with a gig this season.
As of yet, Bennett has not been picked up, but watch this space, firmly.
