GWS coach Adam Kingsley is in support of the club CEO's call for the AFL to look at reducing game lengths.

Giants boss Dave Matthews revealed earlier this week that he is pushing the movement for the league to consider dropping the length of quarters, potentially similar to the 16-minute terms utilised during COVID.

The Giants' coach has echoed the sentiments of his CEO even though he believes he may be "in the minority there" on the opinion.

Kingsley believes shorter games could be "a little bit more palatable" for fans and could lead to closer contests.

"I agree entirely. I'd like to see the game just a little bit shorter," Kingsley said on Thursday.

"The COVID (period) was the test, wasn't it? The COVID quarters. I thought it was really good.

"Personally, I feel like it keeps the game closer. You're still going to have five minutes to go in the quarter where teams seem to get a bit of a run-on.

"It's probably a little bit more palatable for the audience... I like the 16 (minutes) plus time on, but 18 plus time on could very well work."

Kingsley believes the AFL should look into reducing the "live minutes" of matches rather than areas of the game that bring the clock to a halt.

"I don't have an issue with the goal reviews or anything like that, so long as they make good decisions, which it appears we do," Kingsley added.

"I just think the live minutes are a little bit too long, but that's OK.

"I might be in the minority there."

Matches in 2025 are averaging quarters greater than 31 minutes in length, with some believing it's straining the attention of its fans.

Shorter quarters and therefore games would also aid the league's fixture planning, potentially allowing more flexibility with the amount of games placed in prime time slots and across a single day.
