Leading West Australian journalist Digby Beacham says Fremantle forward Jye Amiss needs to produce more after a quiet outing against Geelong in Round 1.

Beacham, speaking on The Outer Wing with Zero Hanger's Mark Stevens, discussed Amiss's struggles, noting he can go missing amid exploring what type of forward he is alongside Josh Treacy and Patrick Voss.

"It's a really good (topic)," Beacham said.

"He's a top 10 Pick. He's played 70-odd games. He's still only 22 years of age, so he's a young man.

"He kicked 32 goals last year, but eight times, he went goalless. And on a handful of other occasions, he kicked the solitary major.

"It's a question of where he's getting his footy, is he being impacted by the presence of both Voss and Treacy? Are they demanding the football a little bit more?

"Is he capable of catching and killing his own? Is he the hit-up target? Is he out the back a little bit?

"He's probably in a state of flux at the moment, Jye. They're persisting with him, but he needs to produce. He knows that. Fremantle knows that.

"Four touches and one goal. That's not enough."
