Western Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge would "hate" to see players reveal their trade plans during the season, like the NRL.
The AFL landscape has yet to open up to honest communication regarding players' future, with ongoing speculation fuelling trade rumours.
Last year, Hawthorn's Sam Mitchell was reported meeting West Coast co-captain Oscar Allen, which blew up, and led to his eventual departure.
Allen joined Brisbane instead of the Hawks, but the saga left a nasty taste, which is in contrast to to Rugby League.
"I would hate to get to the point where Rugby League has gotten too," Beveridge said.
"There's been speculation that it'd be a good thing. It would be a terrible thing. I don't know whether our game is different. If a player, within your own ranks, declares that he's going to another club halfway through the season, that won't sit well with anyone.
"While they're here, just commit to what you're doing, and I don't think anyone needs to know what if you've made your call.
"If we reflect back on a player or two who moved from here, maybe at some point they made their decision, but I'd rather not know it. I'd rather just them remained absolutely committed, and give everything they can here. Otherwise, if you know, then you're looking for things in their game or out of their game that tells you they're not all in."
Ironically, the Bulldogs are heavily into luring Port Adelaide superstar Zak Butters, which Beveridge, in no uncertain terms, attempted to dismiss but ultimately confirmed the club's interest.
"I think every club who is interested in Zak, has either spoken to him, and connected with him personally, or expressed their interest through his management," the 2016 premiership coach said.
"We're on record saying, 'who wouldn't be?' I won't be catching up with Zak in Adelaide.
"He's got a big decision to make as the year goes on, and I need to make sure I don't hound him.
"I can't give any detail on whether I've connected with Zak or not. I don't want to get into trouble that Sam (Mitchell) was in last year.
"Out of respect for 'Carry' and the Port Adelaide Football club, and Zak in particular, I'd never declare that I'm absolutely pursuing him, but its' already on record that the club is more than interested in trying to secure Zak's services. Everyone knows it. We can't put our heads in the sand."
