Defenders

Back Pocket: Luke Hodge (Brisbane)

Hodge turned back the clock on Saturday and played his best game for the Lions so far. He finished with 30 disposals and kicked his first goal and even managed a spectacular contested mark to prove that there’s still a bit more footy left in this superstar.

Full Back: Cale Hooker (Essendon)

The Essendon swingman was instrumental in helping the Bombers to a surprise 28-point win against the Eagles on Thursday night. Hooker finished with 20 disposals at 85% and took nine marks.

Back Pocket: Tom Jonas (Port Adelaide)

Jonas is a real chance to win his first ever Port Adelaide Best and Fairest this year and he played a big part in Port defeating the Demons by 10 points on Friday night. The key defender finished with 20 disposals and 11 marks.

Half Back: Hayden Crozier (Western Bulldogs)

The former Docker played his best game for the Dogs and finished with a career best 30 disposals, 23 of them in the first half.

Centre Half Back: Shannon Hurn (West Coast)

Hurn was West Coast’s best player in their 28-point loss to the Bombers on Thursday night. The big defender finished with 24 disposals and nine marks and was a rock in defence for the Eagles.

Half Back: Adam Saad (Essendon)

The rebounding defender played one of his best games for the Bombers since crossing over from the Gold Coast Suns at the end of last season. Saad provided plenty of run and had 26 disposals at a very impressive 89%.

Midfielders

Wing: Ben Cunnington (North Melbourne)

Cunnington was integral in the Roos winning by two points against the Dogs on Saturday night. The gutsy Roo finished with 30 disposals, 22 contested possessions and eight clearances. It was the 12th time that Cunnington has had more than 20 contested possessions in a game for North Melbourne.

Centre: Sam Powell-Pepper (Port Adelaide)

The young midfielder broke a club record with 17 tackles on Friday night in Port’s win over the Dees. Powell-Pepper also had 16 disposals and had a remarkable 94 pressure points.

Wing: Josh Kelly (GWS)

The gun midfielder was best on ground in the Giants' win over the Lions on Saturday. Kelly finished with 30 disposals, two goals, five tackles and eight marks.

Ruck: Max Gawn (Melbourne)

Gawn was terrific for the Dees on Friday night in their narrow 10-point loss to Port. The big ruckman finished with 53 hit outs and 16 possessions. Gawn has to be the red hot favourite to be the All-Australian ruckman this year.

Rover: Jack Viney (Melbourne)

The midfield battle on Friday night between Port and Melbourne was intriguing and Viney was one of Melbourne’s best with 31 disposals, 20 of which were contested and 14 clearances.

Ruck Rover: Ollie Wines (Port Adelaide)

Wines celebrated an extension on his contract this week with another brilliant game for the Power on Friday night. He finished with 29 touches, 17 contested and eight clearances.

Forwards

Half Forward: Shaun Higgins (Kangaroos)

The former Bulldog is in career best form and he was instrumental in the Roos' two-point win over his former side on Saturday night. Higgins finished with 32 disposals, eight clearances, four inside 50’s and two goals.

Centre Half Forward: Charlie Curnow (Carlton)

The young star forward from the Blues has just signed on for three more years and he was superb on Sunday against the Magpies. Curnow kicked three goals, had 19 disposals and took ten marks including a couple of spectacular mark of the year contenders.

Half Forward: Devon Smith (Essendon)

The former Giant played one of his best games for the Bombers to help them to a 28-point win over West Coast. Smith kicked three goals and also had 23 disposals and laid six tackles.

Forward Pocket: Steele Sidebottom (Collingwood)

Sidebottom is having a great year for the Magpies and was integral in helping the Pies to a 20-point victory over the Blues on Sunday. The classy Sidebottom finished with 31 disposals and eight clearances.

Full Forward: Ben Brown (North Melbourne)

The Coleman Medal leader took his tally to 40 goals with a five-goal bag in the Roos' tight two-point victory over the Dogs. Brown also took six marks.

Forward Pocket: Billy Gowers (Western Bulldogs)

Gowers has been one of the great stories this year in an otherwise disappointing year for the Dogs. He finished with 22 disposals, took 12 marks and kicked three goals.

Interchange

Liam Shiels (Hawthorn)

Shiels was one of Hawthorn’s best players in their 53-point victory over the Suns with 33 disposals and five inside 50’s.

Andrew Gaff (West Coast)

The West Coast ball magnet finished with 32 disposals at 84% disposal efficiency and also had five tackles.

The key defender played a big part in the Bombers' surprise 28-point victory over the Eagles. Hurley finished with 22 disposals and 11 marks.

Daniel Rich (Brisbane)

Rich and Hodge combined well in defence in the Lions loss to the Giants on Saturday. Rich finished with 30 disposals and had five inside 50’s.
