Team of the Week: Round 12

Defenders Back Pocket: Heath Shaw (GWS) The veteran was one of the Giants' best in their 108-point hiding of the Suns with 31 disposals and nine marks. Full Back: Harris Andrews (Brisbane) Andrews is having a great season at the Lions and had one of his best ever games in their loss to Essendon on the weekend. Andrews had 24 touches, 12 marks, six of them contested. He has to be a real chance to win a first ever All-Australian Guernsey. (Photo by Chris Hyde/Getty Images)[/caption] Back Pocket: Lynden Dunn (Collingwood) Playing against his old side, Dunn was superb for Melbourne. He may not have had a stack of the footy, but the fact that he kept star Demon forward Jesse Hogan goal-less for the first time this year, means that he deserves to be in this week’s team of the week. Half Back: Bryce Gibbs (Adelaide) In a disappointing season for the Crows this year, Gibbs has been one of their shining lights. He was clearly the Crows’ best in their three point loss to Fremantle, with 28 disposals and 13 of those being contested. Centre Half Back: Mark Blicavs (Geelong) The athletic big man had the colossal task of being up against one of the competition’s best forwards, in Ben Brown from the Roos. He achieved the task with flying colours, keeping Brown goal-less and proving his versatility to coach, Chris Scott. Half Back: Daniel Rich (Brisbane) Rich was terrific in a losing side on the weekend, with 29 disposals at a very impressive 86% disposal efficiency. These stats proving he is one of the best kicks in the competition. Centre Wing: Josh Kelly (GWS) The classy midfielder was superb on the weekend for the Giants, with a game-high 40 disposals and two goals. If Kelly can stay fit, then the Giants' chances of a first ever premiership will be well and truly alive. Centre: Jake Stringer (Essendon) Stringer is starting to find his feet at the Bombers and he had one of his best games at his new club on the weekend in their 22-point win over the Lions. Stringer kicked three goals, took eight marks, laid nine tackles and had 22 disposals. Wing: Shaun Higgins (North Melbourne) Higgins is a red hot favourite to take out the Roos’ Best and Fairest this year and could be a smoky for the Brownlow as well. He had 30 disposals and kicked two goals in their loss to the Cats, after having 38 disposals the week before against the Lions. (Photo by Quinn Rooney/Getty Images)[/caption] Followers Ruck: Callum Sinclair (Sydney) Sinclair is in career best form and one of the main reasons for the Swans’ resurgence this year. On Saturday night against the Saints he kicked three goals, helped the Swans to a 30 point win over the Blues on Friday night at the SCG with 26 hit outs, 22 possessions, seven marks and two goals. (Photo by Michael Dodge/Getty Images)[/caption] Rover: Gary Ablett (Geelong) Little Gazza was influential in the Cats’ 37-point win over the Roos on Saturday. Ablett kicked two goals and had 34 disposals to go with his 37 disposals and three goals the week before. If he keeps this up, then a third Brownlow Medal could be a possibility. Ruck Rover: Ollie Wines (Port Adelaide) The out-of-contract Port Adelaide midfielder was back to his brilliant best on Friday night in Port’s 14-point win over the Tigers. Wines had 29 disposals, 16 of which were contested, 12 tackles and seven clearances. Port fans will be hoping he puts pen to paper soon! Forwards Half Forward: Josh Kennedy (Sydney) Kennedy had 31 disposals, 13 of which were contested. He is an integral part of the Swans’ midfield and if anyone deserves to win a Brownlow Medal, it is this former Hawk. Centre Half Forward: Mason Cox (Collingwood) The big American bagged five goals in the Pies’ win over the Dees and at 211 centimetres he became the tallest man in AFL history to kick five goals in a game. [caption id="attachment_20864" align="alignnone" width="696"] Mason Cox[/caption] Half Forward: Jordan De Goey (Collingwood) De Goey had 30 disposals and an incredible 12 inside 50’s, 10 of which were in the first half. He has made a huge difference to the Pies since he came back in after missing the first few games of the season, due to a club imposed suspension. Forward Pocket: Jeremy Cameron (GWS) Cameron was superb for the Giants in their 108-point annihilation of the Suns on the weekend with six goals, nine marks and 26 disposals. Full Forward: Tom Hawkins (Geelong) The big forward was back to his best in the Cats’ 37-point win over the Roos. Hawkins had 23 disposals, 11 marks and kicked three goals. Forward Pocket: Tom McDonald (Melbourne) The former defender was one of the shining lights in the Demons’ disappointing Queen’s Birthday game loss to the Magpies kicking six goals while amassing 15 disposals and taking seven marks. Interchange Bench: Jared Polec (Port) The speedy wingman was fantastic for Port on Friday night in their win over Richmond by 14 points. Polec had 28 disposals of which 16 were contested and kicked an important goal beyond the 50 metre arc. Cox kicked four goals, had 19 disposals and took seven marks. Bench: Zach Merrett (Essendon) The gutsy midfielder had 29 disposals, seven marks and eight tackles in the Bombers’ 22-point victory over the Lions on Sunday. Bench: Will Hoskin-Elliott (Collingwood) Hoskin-Elliott is on fire at the moment and has kicked ten goals in the last two games for the Pies. He booted four in their win over the Dees and also took eight marks.
