Melbourne have entered into a mega five-way trade in order to secure Blues forward Tayla Harris.

The trade, which was made official early on Tuesday, saw Harris join Melbourne along with picks 44, 49 and Cats youngster Olivia Purcell, while the Dee's traded defender Chantel Emonson to Geelong.

Carlton lost Harris but gained picks 10, 27, 32 and All-Australian Giant Jess Dal Pos.

GWS relinquished their number 10 pick but gained Chloe Dalton and former captain Katie Loynes from the Blues. While Adelaide picked up picks 20 and 47 in exchange for pick 49 and Chloe Scheer, who has found a new home at Geelong.

Harris' contract talks broke down with Carlton last month after the the three-time All-Australian was reportedly seeking $150,000-a-year.

The 24-year-old began her career at Brisbane in the inaugural AFLW season before requesting a trade to a Victorian team. Harris was eventually traded to Carlton in a complex four-way deal. Melbourne also made an offer for the forward.

Harris kicked 25 goals over four seasons with the Blues, tying with teammate Darcy Vescio to share the club's leading goalkicker award in 2018, but only managed four this season.

The 2021 AFLW trade period began on Monday May 31 and has seen five trades so far, including Richmond power forward Sabrina Frederick's move to Collingwood in exchange for Maddie Shevlin.

Later, the Giants traded 2018 club rising star Elle Bennetts to the Bulldogs in exchange for pick 28. Bennetts, through her former career as a teacher in Melbourne, has links to current Bulldogs coach Nathan Burke.

The AFLW trade period ends on Wednesday June 9. The AFLW is yet to set a date for the upcoming 2021 draft, though the draft order will be confirmed on June 25, once all player movement windows have closed.
