Tasmania Devils confirm first player signing

Former Essendon forward Jye Menzie has been named as the Tasmania Devils' first player signing for their VFL side in 2026.

Menzie only recently exited the AFL system, playing 47 games and kicking 36 goals for the Bombers, following his 2022 mid-season selection.

"The build of our inaugural VFL and VFL list is well underway. The announcement of Jye joining us at the Devils is exciting for the Club, and we are looking forward to further announcements over the coming weeks," Tasmania Football Club Head of VFL and VFLW Aaron Pidgeon said.

"This week we have trials happening in regional centres across Tasmania. The calibre of the talent that we are seeing is impressive, and the interest in joining our program is encouraging."

The North Hobart product is keen to start his new career at the Devils, and believes he can add plenty of experience.

"I have learned a lot during my career so far, and particularly during my time in the AFL, I am really eager to share my learnings and continue to grow whilst being back on home soil."

Tasmania Football Club Head of List Management and Strategy Todd Patterson was also stoked that Menzie has committed to the club.

"Whilst unfortunate for Jye that his time at Essendon has ended, we couldn't be happier to kick off with him as our first signing. Having played 10 games this year, Jye showed he can still compete at the level and at just 22 years of age, we are excited to work with him as he looks to get back to the elite level," Patterson said.

"Pleasingly for us, Jye has spoken consistently through the recruitment process around his passion for Tasmania and bringing his experiences to our program to help make others better, and we believe he can be a genuine leader for our club."
