Sydney's Errol Gulden is no stranger to unique celebrations that have generally come from a rival code.

The Swans speedster has the scoreboard on multiple occasions and still has the presence of mind to heap praise on stars from other sports.

But his latest tribute following a crucial goal in the third term against Fremantle paid honour to the late Liverpool star, Diogo Jota, who passed away suddenly after a car crash on July 3.

Gulden is a known Reds supporter, and when he kicked a goal on Sunday, capping an excellent performance in his third game of the year, he gave a nod to one of his idols.

"Being a Liverpool fan or just a sports fan in general, it was pretty heartbreaking to see the tragic death. Dylan Stephens from North, we're both big fans, so we were chatting about it (a celebration)," Gulden said.

"The only thing that can come out of tragic accidents like this is you gain a little bit of perspective and realise that you can take for granted the relationships you have sometimes. We were definitely a little bit more grateful for each other last week."

Carlton's Jesse Motlop also paid tribute to Jota, sitting on the ground following a major he kicked in the loss to Collingwood.

Last year, Gulden nicked a celebration for Swedish soccer superstar Viktor Gyokeres after a six-pointer against Essendon.

"I thought it was a pretty cool celly, so I stole it for the night," Gulden said to Channel 7 at the time.

It caps an incredible and immediate comeback from the 22-year-old, who spent the first 15 weeks of the season on the sidelines, averaging 24.33 disposals, 6.7 tackles, 4.3 marks, and 4 clearances.

"I put in a pretty big body of work for the last four to six weeks before I returned," said Gulden.

"How enjoyable it is, but also how hard AFL football is. It's still been a bit of a challenge to try and get up to speed with the game. More than anything, I'm just having fun playing footy."

Gulden's return has seen a major improvement in the Swans' performance, which they desperately need if they are to remain in the hunt for finals.

They currently sit three games outside the top eight but have a string of winnable games against St. Kilda, North Melbourne, GWS, and Essendon before Brisbane, Geelong, and West Coast to finish.

It is understood that 14 wins are likely to claim a spot inside the top eight, meaning, "We probably have to win every game if we want to play finals," Gulden said plainly.

"We still think we're capable. Whether we do or not, that's another story, but all we can do is keep taking care of our business and just pray that a few results go our way.

"Unfortunately, we've left ourselves in this position given our start to the year. As cliche as it is, we're just worrying about each game and not looking at the ladder too much and trying to stay off the ladder predictor on the AFL app, too."
