Sydney forward Tom Papley's pre-season has been interrupted by calf soreness.

Papley is on a monitored running program and has not been in the main training group since returning from the Christmas break.

Zero Hanger understands Papley is likely to remain on modified duties for the next fortnight or so before being ready to step up to full duties.

Sydney will kick off the AFL season with a clash against Carlton at the SCG in only 42 days time.

Papley, the Swans' livewire and barometer, is integral to the club's chances of rebounding back into premiership contention this season.

Having suffered serious heel and ankle issues in recent seasons, and being hobbled by a hamstring problem later in 2025, Sydney will be ultra-cautious with 29-year-old Papley.
