The AFL's Executive General Manager of Football Performance has signed off on the MRO's decision to hand Eagles utility Harry Schoenberg a one match ban for a jumper punch on the weekend.
The former Crow was handed an AFL lifeline by the Eagles in the pre-season, joining the struggling club as an SSP selection, but will now have to wait a week longer before making his debut for his second club, after being cited for striking Port Adelaide's Logan Evans.
Speaking on Fox Footy's AFL360, Swann was clear that the punishment fit the crime, having warned all 18 clubs of an ensuing crackdown.
"We sent out some clips to clubs of what would be penalised, and Harry hit them all, to be honest. Swinging arm, closed fist, off the ball. He's got a week," Swann said.
"(A clear message) is what you hope for... We talk about what happens at the junior levels; they mimic their heroes in the AFL. There was talk about that happening a lot, so hopefully that (the suspension) stops that too."
Garry Lyon, former player and longtime pundit was in full support of Swann and the AFL's position.
"I commend you 'Swanny'; this will put the rest of the competition on notice," he said.
The Eagles are due to commence their campaign against the Gold Coast Suns on Sunday, March 15th, and will do so without the 25-year-old Schoenberg.
