State League wrap-up: Round 22

VFL

Collingwood 9.17 (71) def. by Geelong 11.10 (76)

Tom Atkins (25 disposals, 23 tackles, and two goals) had an amazing game, as his Geelong side defeated Collingwood in a nail-biter. Jordon Cunico was also good, recording 24 touches and two majors.

Jesse White played a solid game for the Pies, he finished with 22 disposals, 19 hit-outs, and a goal.

Essendon 13.10 (88) def. Footscray 12.11 (83)

Essendon held on late to take the four points over Footscray. Kyle Langford (30 disposals and two goals), and Nicholas O'Brien (40 disposals and one goal) both had excellent games.

Matt Boyd had 26 touches for the Dogs, while teammate Tom Boyd kicked three goals in his return to football.

Werribee 10.16 (76) def. by Northern Blues 16.9 (105)

Werribee's struggles continued as they went down to the Northern blues by 29 points. Nicholas Graham turned it on in the win, he had 26 disposals and kicked three goals. His teammate Andrew Gallucci also performed well kicking four majors.

North Melbourne listed-Werribee player Jed Anderson put his hand up for a recall to the seniors, recording 26 disposals. Inaccuracy hurt Lindsay Thomas who kicked 1.4 in the loss.

Coburg 16.9 (105) def. North Ballarat 14.9 (93)

Coburg took the four points home in the battle of the bottom of the ladder. Ryan Exon was good for the Lions, slotting three goals and laying 13 tackles.

Despite his side going down, Andrew Hooper was able to slot five goals.

Casey 11.12 (78) def. Williamstown 7.12 (54)

Casey delivered a fantastic performance to knock off ladder leaders Williamstown. Jay Kennedy-Harris was excellent, he had 22 touches, 19 tackles, and kicked a goal. Tom Bugg was also good in his return, recording 24 disposals and 12 tackles.

It was a tough afternoon for Williamstown, however, despite only recording nine touches himself, Nicholas Meese had a remarkable 85 hit-outs.

Richmond 22.17 (149) def. Sandringham 12.7 (79)

It was an unbelievable effort from a number of Richmond players, as they defeated Sandringham by 70 points. Sam Lloyd had 50 disposals and four goals, while Anthony Miles kept up his excellent play recording 45 touches.

On a tough day for Sandringham, Corey Rich kicked three goals.

Box Hill 8.10 (58) def. Port Melbourne 13.8 (86)

Port Melbourne claimed an important win for their season, beating Box Hill by 28 points. Jordan Lisle backed up his seven goal performance last week by slotting four goals.

It was a difficult day for the Hawks, with Kade Stewart was their only multiple goal scorer, kicking two goals.

East Fremantle 8.7 (55) def. by Peel Thunder 10.8 (68)

Hadyn Matthews (25 disposals and a goal) performed well, as Peel Thunder defeated East Fremantle. Jonathon Griffin (17 disposals, 36 hit-outs, and two goals) was also good in the win.

Thomas Bennett was one of the best on for the Sharks, he finished with 23 touches and two goals.

Perth 14.14 (98) def. East Perth 13.15 (93)

Clinton Jones was again at his brilliant best, recording 38 disposals in Perth's tight win over East Perth.

Patrick McGinnity put in a good display despite his side going down, he finished with 27 touches and three goals. Teammate Sharrod Wellingham also racked it up, recording 34 disposals.

Subiaco 19.14 (128) def. West Perth 6.10 (46)

Subiaco kept West Perth scoreless in the second quarter to help claim an 82-point win. Both Lachlan Delahunty (27 touches and three goals) and Leigh Kitchin (29 touches and a goal) were excellent for the Lions.

Shane Nelson again found a lot of the ball for the Falcons, collecting 29 disposals.

Swan Districts 11.5 (71) def. by Claremont 13.17 (95)

Jye Bolton may have been suffering from some leather poisoning on Saturday, as he collected 41 touches in Claremont's win.

Adam Faulkner was very active throughout the match for Swan Districts, he had 33 disposals.

SANFL

Central District 15.16 (106) def. West Adelaide 7.10 (52)

A six goal to zero last quarter helped Central District claim a big win over West Adelaide. Nick Holman was again brilliant for the victors, finishing with 30 disposals and two goals.

Izak Rankine (24 disposals) had a good day for West Adelaide, however, it could have been even better as he kicked 0.4.

Glenelg 12.11 (83) def. by North Adelaide 15.9 (99)

North Adelaide kept Glenelg scoreless in the first term as they defeated the Tigers by 16 points. Maris Olekains had a good game, finishing with three goals and 20 disposals.

Despite the loss, Lachlan Earl was impressive, he had 29 disposals.

Sturt 15.10 (100) def. South Adelaide 10.10 (70)

A six-goal haul for Kory Beard helped guide Sturt to a 30-point win over South Adelaide.

Despite his side going down, Joel Cross dished up an excellent performance. He finished with 40 disposals and two goals.

Eagles 10.8 (68) def. Adelaide 8.9 (57)

Adelaide kept the Eagles scoreless in the second quarter, however, it was not enough, as they went down by 11 points. Jared Petrenko was excellent in the win, he had 31 disposals and kicked two goals.

Paul Seedsman (33 disposals and a goal) again played well for the crows, while Scott Thompson (29 disposals) continues to make the case for more senior games before he hangs up the boots.

Port Adelaide 19.8 (122) def. Norwood 8.3 (51)

Jackson Trengove could be destined for a Power recall, as he kicked four goals and had 24 disposals in Port Adelaide's win over Norwood. Aaron Young (30 touches and three goals) was also very good.

Mitch Grigg was again excellent for Norwood, he had 27 disposals, 10 tackles, and kicked a goal, despite his side going down by 71 points.

NEAFL

Southport 13.12 (90) def. by Canberra 14.12 (96)

After going goalless in the first quarter, Southport stormed home, however, they couldn't get over the line. Aaron Bruce kicked three goals for Canberra in the win.

Despite his side going down, Robert Clements slotted five majors.

Redland 10.6 (66) def. by Sydney Uni 17.12 (114)

A massive 52-point first quarter from Sydney Uni helped them claim the four points over Redland. Thomas Young had 27 disposals and kicked three goals for the victors.

Luke Rogerson was arguably best on ground for Redland, he had 21 touches and kicked a goal.

Giants 13.10 (88) def. by Brisbane 14.9 (93)

Brilliant performances from Will Setterfield (31 disposals and a goal) and Matthew Kennedy (37 disposals) were not enough for the Giants, as they went down to Brisbane by five points.

Josh Clayton was a big reason as to why the Lions took the four points, he had 28 touches.

Aspley 16.10 (106) def. NT Thunder 8.13 (61)

Former AFL players Ben Warren (24 disposals and four goals) and Ed Barlow (35 disposals & two goals) dominated as Aspley defeated Northern Territory.

Darren Ewing was also able to hit the scoreboard again, he kicked two goals.

Gold Coast 13.5 (83) def. by Sydney 23.12 (150)

James Rose (32 disposals and four goals) has once again put his hand up for senior selection, leading Sydney to a big win over Gold Coast. His teammate Aliir Aliir (20 disposals and three goals) also impressed.

Will Brodie was one of the few shining lights for the Suns, he finished the game with 39 touches and a goal.
