State League wrap-up: Round 14

VFL Essendon 15.7 (97) def. Williamstown 12.10 (82) 32 touches and a goal from David Myers has lifted Essendon to a 15-point win over Williamstown. Josh Begley also performed well for the Bombers, kicking four goals. Leigh Masters gave his all for the Gulls, kicking two goals to go along with 25 disposals. Port Melbourne 13.9 (87) def. Collingwood 19.10 (124) Port Melbourne has dropped just their second game of the year, going down to Collingwood by 37 points. Mason Cox had a day out for the Pies, kicking six goals, and recording 24 touches, 24 hit-outs, and 15 marks. Chris Mayne also impressed with five goals, as did Matt Scharenberg who had 35 touches, and a goal. Former North Melbourne and Richmond player, Robbie Nahas, led the way for the Borough kicking four goals. Sandringham 8.1 (63) def. Coburg 13.10 (88) Coburg has registered their first win of the year, getting over the line against Sandringham. Ben Allan was terrific for the victors, he had 26 touches, eight tackles and kicked a goal. Jack Steele could have earned himself a senior recall, recording a goal and 34 disposals in the loss. While big man Jason Holmes kicked a goal and had 26 hit-outs. Footscray 13.17 (95) def. Werribee 10.11 (71) There was a plethora of AFL players in action when Footscray and Werribee went head-to-head on the weekend. Bulldogs Matt Boyd (34 touches), Clay Smith (23 touches and 16 tackles) impressed, while Declan Hamilton (27 touches and a goal) may have earned himself a debut. Braydon Preuss was exceptional for Werribee, he finished with 63 hit-outs and 17 disposals, while Mitch Hibberd (25 disposals) also performed well. Box Hill 11.7 (73) def. by Casey 14.15 (99) Young gun Sam Weideman kicked six goals as Casey handed Box Hill their first loss of the season. The forward had plenty of support with Jay Kennedy-Harris (39 touches), Dean Kent (34 touches) and Ben Kennedy (35 touches) all performing well. Ty Vickery was again amongst the goal kickers for the Hawks, registering four majors, while Kade Stewart had 23 touches to go along with two goals. Richmond 16.19 (115) def. Northern Blues 4.7 (31) It was a glum day for Blues fans as they not only got beaten in the seniors, but also copped a hiding in the VFL. Anthony Miles was amongst the best for the Tigers, while Mabior Chol kicked two goals. There wasn't a whole lot going for the Northern Blues, however, Rhys Palmer again performed well. North Ballarat 6.15 (51) def. by Geelong 15.10 (100) Timm House kicked four goals as Geelong easily dealt with North Ballarat. Ryan Abbott was also amongst the best and he also managed to hit the scoreboard with a goal. The Roosters continue to struggle, however, Lachlan Cassidy, and Lachlan George both kicked three goals. WAFL Claremont 14.6 (90) def. West Perth 12.16 (88) Claremont held on to defeat West Perth, despite not kicking a goal in the final term. Jye Bolton performed well for the victors, recording 28 touches and one goal, as did Mitchell Andrews who also had 52 hit-outs. Shane Nelson again led West Perth, recording 39 disposals and nine inside 50s. Andrew Strijk will be ruing his inaccuracy kicking 1.5. East Fremantle 3.12 (30) def. by Peel Thunder 9.12 (66) Garrick Ibbotson (24 touches) put on a good display to help lead Peel to a 36-point win over East Fremantle. Zac Dawson and Matthew Taberner both managed to get on the scoreboard, kicking two goals apiece. It wasn't a great day for East Fremantle, however, Jayden Schofield was good, finishing the game with 28 disposals. Swan Districts 14.6 (90) def. East Perth 9.10 (64) Ricky Cary kicked seven goals for Swan Districts helping them knock-off East Perth by 26-points. Jamie Bennell also played well finshing with 31 touches and 12 marks. Luke Partington kept up his good form for the year, he managed to record 28 disposals, while kicking four goals. Chris Masten had 33 touches and seven inside 50s, while Scott Lycett and Jonathan Giles shared the ruck duties and dominated. South Fremantle 25.13 (163) def. Perth 7.11 (53) It was a goal-fest for South Fremantle, as they thrashed Perth by 110 points. Blaine Johnson kicked nine goals, Cory Dell'olio kicked six, Mason Shaw managed five, while Haiden Schloithe had 32 disposals to go along with his four majors. In what was a dark day for Perth, with Aidan Tropiano the lone shinning light, recording 24 disposals and 13 tackles. SANFL Glenelg 9.7 (61) def. by Eagles 12.9 (81) The Eagles have come from behind in the last quarter to register a fantastic win against Glenelg. Chris Hall was excellent in the victory, he had 25 touches and kicked three goals for Woodville West Torrens. Matthew Snook had a lot of the ball for Glenelg, finishing with 34 touches and four inside 50s. Central District 9.11 (65) def. by Adelaide 16.5 (101) Adelaide got off to flying start and didn't look back from there, as they beat Central District by 36-points. Scott Thompson (33 disposals and two goals) again performed well, and may have earned himself a recall. Paul Seedsman was also was good with 24 touches. Luke Habel had 28 disposals for Central District, and it could have been even better if he could have kicked straight in front of goal, he had 1.3. West Adelaide 15.13 (103) def. North Adelaide 13.5 (83) Errin Wasley-Black kicked two goals and had 25 disposals as West Adelaide got past their opposition from the North. Chris Schmidt also impressed with 27 touches. Keenan Ramsey didn't have a lot of it for North Adelaide, but still managed to put four through the big sticks. NEAFL Sydney Uni 9.10 (64) def. by Sydney 15.16 (106) Jordan Dawson kept up his strong form, recording 23 touches and a goal in Sydney's win over Sydney Uni. Jarrad McVeigh performed well with 19 touches and two goals. Xavier Richards had a tough day against his old side, recording only eight touches and kicking a behind. Brisbane 22.15 (147) def. Giants 7.9 (51) Jonathan Freeman, and Liam Dawson both had five goals as Brisbane thrashed the Giants by 96-points. Matt Hammelmann was again good for the Lions, he also hit the scoreboard with four majors. Despite the loss, Tendai Mzungu performed relatively well, with 22 touches and seven tackles. Redland 11.17 (83) def. by Aspley 16.9 (105) Three goals from ex-North Melbourne forward Ben Warren has guided Aspley to a 22-point win over Redland. Clinton French also chipped in with three goals for the victors. Jackson Paine performed well despite the loss, he had 18 touches, 10 marks, and kicked four goals. NT Thunder 10.10 (70) def. by Southport 19.9 (123) Southport surprised everyone by knocking off the NT Thunder at TIO Traeger Park. Hamish Shepheard led the way for the Sharks kicking six goals, while Josh Baxter chipped in with four. Darren Ewing followed up his 10-goal haul last week with three for the Thunder against Southport. Canberra 5.10 (40) def. by Gold Coast 19.8 (122) Will Brodie may have earned himself a spot in the ones next week, as he had 28 disposals and kicked three goals in Gold Coast's win over Canberra. Keegan Brooksby was also excellent for the Suns finishing with five goals. Jordan Harper was yet again Canberra's best player, with 27 disposals and a goal.
