Geelong could be without captain Joel Selwood for its crucial clash with Essendon on Saturday night.

Selwood pulled up sore from the Cats' loss to the Suns at Metricon Stadium over the weekend, after rolling his ankle during the match.

"He (Selwood) was a bit sore on the weekend," Hawkins said of his skipper who was on crutches after the match on Sunday.

"We had a light craft session today and he participated in that, so he's going to get an opportunity to train tomorrow and the coaches will sit down and pick the side.

"They'll give him every opportunity."

Meanwhile defender Lachie Henderson, who was a late withdrawal from Geelong's side on Saturday night after copping a knock in the warm-up, also remains in doubt.

"Lachie will go through the same process Joel will ... he'll get a test and the coaches will pick their side."

After winning the first five games of the season, Geelong has lost two games in a row and risk falling out of the top four if Chris Scott's men cannot beat the Bombers. While Essendon could climb into the top eight with a win over the Cats at the MCG on Saturday night.
