St Kilda have confirmed first-year midfielder Hugh Boxshall will debut on Friday night against Fremantle after a promising run in the VFL.
Boxshall, who was drafted out of Western Australia with the 45th overall pick, has played four games for VFL affiliate Sandringham this season, averaging 23.8 disposals, 3.5 marks and 9.8 tackles per game.
The promising ball winner also enjoyed a solid outing for the Saints in the pre-season AAMI Community Series, booting multiple goals from 15 possessions against Port Adelaide.
The teenager is now set to become the Saints' sixth debutant of 2025, with the club confirming his inclusion for Round 8 on Wednesday.
โHugh has been an exciting addition to the midfield mix since his arrival at the club,โ Saints football boss David Misson said in a press release.
โWe've loved seeing him excel over summer and reap the rewards of his hard work in the VFL. We can't wait to watch him take his opportunity with both hands this Friday night, as we welcome the Boxshall family over from the west.โ
Boxshall joins Harry Boyd, Liam O'Connell, Max Hall, Isaac Keeler and Tobie Travaglia in making his debut in the red, white and black this year.
The Saints will make at least one change this weekend, with veteran Mason Wood ruled out with concussion.
Young star Mattaes Phillipou was due to return prior to an injury concern at training on Wednesday, while suspension has put a line through top 10 selection Alix Tauru's hopes of a maiden appearance this week.
The Saints will confirm their 23-man lineup on Thursday evening, with their final side to be confirmed at 6:40pm (AEST) on Friday ahead of the game with Fremantle at Marvel Stadium.
