St Kilda is hopeful that Ryan Byrnes and Callum Wilkie will be available for next week's Opening Round clash against Collingwood following injuries on Saturday.

The pair failed to make it through the final pre-season game against Essendon, with Wilkie put on ice after a corked calf early in the match.

The Saints' new captain was hobbling around the ground after the first quarter, causing concern for the club ahead of a blockbuster clash.

However, Wilkie expelled fears in the half-time interval, saying to Fox Footy that he'll be available next week.

Footage showed a despondent Byrnes in the rooms of Mars Stadium with his boot off, indicating a right ankle issue.

The Saints speedster came from the field during the third term with a high ankle sprain.

It comes as Brad Hill was pulled from the match-up with illness.

Before Byrnes came off with an ankle injury, he was involved in a dangerous tackle incident.

Essendon midfielder Sam Durham could be facing a one-match suspension for his dumping motion, which saw the 24-year-old earn a free kick as his head hit the ground.

Byrnes continued playing the practice match before he exited the field through an ankle injury.

St Kilda will host Collingwood at the MCG on Sunday, March 8 in a primetime slot.
