St Kilda are understood to have held a second round of discussions with former senior coach Ross Lyon in as many days as momentum around his potential Moorabbin return gains further momentum.

Lyon was heavily tied to the coaching vacancy at the Saints less than 24 hours after Brett Ratten's shock sacking last Thursday, however president Andrew Bassat wasn't keen to speak on the club's coaching search at Friday's press conference.

On Monday it was revealed that Lyon held discussions with Saints chiefs at Bassat's house for close to four hours, prompting plenty of belief that the former Fremantle coach is the clubhouse favourite for the St Kilda position.

According to The Herald Sun, Lyon and the Saints held further discussions on Tuesday as the two parties look to reach an agreement, however a decision from Lyon is yet to be made.

Newly-appointed St Kilda football director Geoff Walsh is set to speak with Lyon regarding the club's football department personnel in the coming days.

Following strong backing from those close to Lyon at Linton Street, an offer to accept the coaching position is seemingly his for the taking.

With St Kilda wanting an experienced coach, the likes of Luke Beveridge, Don Pyke and Nathan Buckley could still be on the Saints' radar.

However, according to 7 News both Beveridge and highly-rated Melbourne assistant Adem Yze aren't part of St Kilda's process to find a new coach.

Yze has been part of processes for recent vacancies at Essendon and GWS, which were won by Brad Scott and Adam Kingsley respectively.

Buckley is believed to be uninterested in returning to coaching for next year, currently prioritising plans to head to the US early next year.

  1. Well, St Kilda, fans, be prepared to be in the bottom eight for the foreseeable future if they give the job to Lyon. Evidently, the St. Kilda head office DOES like “mediocrity” and is choosing to forget that Lyon’s last few seasons at Fremantle were a disaster. They are also forgetting the way he walked out on them before. They are choosing to ignore that Lyon’s style of coaching doesn’t fit with the modern game. Yep, the Saints are going to stay at the bottom of the ladder because the head office is clueless.
