St Kilda has confirmed the signing of an international import as a Category B rookie ahead of the pre-season.
Irishman Liam O'Connell has officially penned a Saints contract after it was reported in late August the Gaelic footballer had chosen Moorabbin as his new professional home.
St Kilda reportedly beat out the likes of Carlton and Melbourne for O'Connell, who projects as a developmental half-forward prospect out of Cork and Ballincollig.
The 20-year-old previously lived in Western Australia until he was 11 years old before returning to Ireland and plying his trade as an up-and-coming Gaelic Athletic Association star.
St Kilda list boss Stephen Silvagni welcomed O'Connell to the Saints' fold in a Friday club statement.
"We're pleased to have Liam join our list and are excited at what the future could hold for him," Silvagni said.
"Liam's athleticism is his standout feature, while his Gaelic football skills should translate well to what is required on the football field in AFL.
"We wish Liam all the best as he begins this exciting new chapter in his life at St Kilda."
Having only arrived in Australia on Wednesday, O'Connell expressed his eagerness to kickstart his Moorabbin tenure.
"It all happened very quickly, but I'm so glad to be here now," O'Connell said.
"I can't wait to get stuck in and learn more about the game and contribute."
The Saints have embraced Irish talent previously, having recruited Kilkenny local Darragh Joyce to Moorabbin before the defender crossed to the Brisbane Lions.
St Kilda's 2024 pre-season commences in two Mondays' time.
