Second Bulldogs star requests move to rival, two clubs already linked: AFL trade news

Contracted Western Bulldogs midfielder Jack Macrae has reportedly requested to depart the club this off-season.

Macrae is under contract at the Kennel until the end of the 2027 season, having inked a long-term deal with the Dogs two years ago.

The three-time All-Australian endured a down year in 2024, playing 19 games - four of which came as the tactical sub under coach Luke Beveridge, including last week's elimination final loss to Hawthorn.

The 30-year-old averaged 18.37 disposals this year, his lowest rate since his debut season in 2013.

Following a frustrating year, the premiership Bulldog is said to be seeking a move elsewhere this year despite being under contract, per AFL.com.au's Cal Twomey.

It is understood Macrae has not nominated a desired club to move to.

7 News' Ryan Daniels has reported St Kilda and Geelong as two clubs keen on Macrae, whose request comes after off-contract young gun Bailey Smith officially requested to be traded to a second club this off-season.

While Smith is unsigned for 2025 and can depart the club, Macrae will need a trade permitted by the Western Bulldogs to join a rival side.

Smith too had garnered reported interest from Geelong as he weighs up a move for 2025, with no club nominated by the former top 10 pick either.
