St Kilda speedster Jimmy Webster will not return to the Saints' clash with Carlton after injuring his hand in the opening minutes of the first term.

Webster attacked the ball during a contest early in the opening quarter and has his right hand stomped on by Blues ruckman Matthew Kreuzer.

Webster immediately went down into the rooms following the incident but returned at quarter time, and looked ready to resume in the second quarter.

The 23-year-old sat on the bench for the start of the second term before going back into the rooms to tape his hand, and then made his way back to the pine with a jumper on, signifying his end to the day.

“Jimmy Webster back on the bench with a heavily strapped hand,” Triple M's Dr Rohan White said during the call.

“He’s got a tracksuit on, he won’t take any further part in the game.

“They’ve put so much strapping on [his hand] it’s a bit like a plaster, they’ve immobilised it… he’s probably got a little fracture there.”
