Richmond is set to play at least one home game at Hobart's Ninja Stadium in 2026 and 2027.
7 News' Mitch Cleary reported on Sunday evening that the deal is likely to be in place until Tasmania Devils' mooted AFL arrival in 2028.
The match will replace the Tigers' Marvel Stadium home match, with the club to maintain its quota of 10 MCG home games.
According to Cleary, Richmond will bank about $1 million per season, with the move coming after the Tasmanian Government lobbied for the move to keep footy in Hobart across the next two seasons.
Richmond CEO Shane Dunne highlighted the benefits of the fixture decision in a club statement on Monday.
"We did not take this decision lightly. Ultimately, it made sense on a number of levels, and we are really excited to bring the club to Tasmania over the next two years," Dunne said.
“There are obviously commercial considerations, but the decision went well beyond that. We have a unique connection to this state and now is a perfect time to pay tribute to that history in advance of Tasmania entering the competition.
"Importantly, this deal will give our members access to 11 games at the MCG - 10 home games and a replacement game - as well as our game in Tasmania. We wanted to ensure that our members were not disadvantaged, and this arrangement delivers that outcome.
"From a football perspective, we are hopeful that we can align our VFL fixture to this game, creating another opportunity for our developing list to travel together. These are invaluable experiences that will support the growth of the group.
“We thank the Tasmanian Government and the AFL for their support, and we are looking forward to the great benefit that this game will provide Richmond and the Tiger Army.”
Richmond has a proud history with Tasmania, home to some of the club's all-time greatest figures in Matthew Richardson, Jack Riewoldt, Royce Hart, Ian Stewart, Michael Roach, Brendon Gale and current captain Toby Nankervis.
Of the 42 AFL matches played at Ninja Stadium (Bellerive), the venue's two largest crowds included Richmond, with 17,844 spectators piling into the ground in 2016, ousting 2015's crowd of 17,544.
North Melbourne, which has long played four games in Hobart per season, will not feature at all down south in 2026 after playing two games there in 2025, with two other home games played in Bunbury.
