Richmond are expecting to have defender Jayden Short available for Sunday's meeting with North Melbourne after he missed Round 9 through injury.
Short missed last week's win over West Coast due to knee soreness, which forced the Tigers into a late change for the eventual victory.
Short was listed as a test for this week, needing to get through training to get the green light to face the Kangaroos.
Speaking on Thursday, coach Adem Yze - who mentioned Short was dealing with calf soreness - said Short is expected to return to his lineup.
"He should be (OK). He obviously had a tight calf pre-game," he said.
"He'll get through today and be available. Everything is looking and tracking OK.
"He'll have to get through today's main session."
Richmond have a host of senior players nearing returns from injuries of their own, with triple premiership midfielder Dion Prestia looking to make his first appearance at AFL level for the year.
The veteran Tiger hasn't played this year due to an Achilles injury, with the ex-Sun expected to be back on the field in the coming weeks.
Prestia could come back through the VFL before being named in Yze's side, with the Tigers wanting to take a cautious approach with the injury-struck veteran.
"We'll have that discussion now that he's getting closer to playing," Yze said.
"[A return through the VFL] probably will be the plan. He'll hate me saying it. We've got to be really cautious with what happened last year.
"He didn't play any VFL games last year and we got the result we got. If it means he needs half a game at VFL level, then we'll do that.
"We need a fit Dion at AFL level. He's such a great leader out there, so when he comes back we want him out there for the rest of the season."
The Tigers have given young defender Josh Gibcus his first return date of the year as he continues to recover from an ACL injury, with the former first-round pick now 7-10 weeks away.
Fellow ACL-hit Tigers Mykelti Lefau and Tylar Young will be back in the VFL this month, with the former making his return this weekend.
Richmond are also confident they'll have Samson Ryan (foot) and Mate Colina (knee) playing at the state league level soon.
The Tigers have needed to take a conservative approach with Pick 7 selection Josh Smillie, who has suffered a minor setback in his recovery from a hamstring strain.
"We've got to be really patient with this kid," Yze said of the Tigers draftee.
"When he comes back, we need him to be playing consistent footy. We've set a really strong plan.
"It's only a minor setback, but we'll give him an extra couple of weeks to really get his body right, so that when he is ready he's hitting the ground running.
"He's a really resilient kid. He'll be OK, we'll wrap our arms around him. He'll get an opportunity later in the year."
Richmond could claim their fourth win of the year on Sunday when they host North Melbourne at the MCG at 1:10pm.
