GWS star Toby Greene is set to play on the average AFL wage during the 2019 season, despite signing a big six-year deal earlier this year in March.

Greene - who has been injured for the majority of the 2018 campaign playing just three games - will be on $300,000-$350,000 according to The Age, to help the Giants deal with their tight salary cap.

The All-Australian was one of several players the Giants spoke to following last season regarding their contracts, with GWS suggesting players back-end their deals to help alleviate some salary cap pressure in the short term.

Over the course of Greene's six-year deal, it is believed he will be averaging $750,000 per season.

The Giants believe they are now finally in the market to recruit a consistent player next season, although The Age understand they don't have enough salary cap space to target a player like Rory Sloane or Andrew Gaff, who will command upwards of $800,000 a season.
