Carlton have made one last play for Dylan Shiel as the midfielders move to Essendon hits a stalemate.

The Herald Sun is reporting the Blues met with the Giants this morning to discuss a possible trade for Shiel.

The 25-year-old nominated Essendon has his preferred destination for 2019 but the Bombers and Giants have so far failed to agree on a deal.

GWS want two first round picks for Shiel but the Bombers are only willing to offer pick 9 and pick 34 in this year's draft.

In a statement released last week, the Giants said they are prepared to keep the contracted Shiel next year if they could not agree a deal with the Bombers.

“The Giants are prepared to discuss potential trade options with the Bombers that sees an appropriate return for the club," the Giants said in a club statement.

“Dylan is contracted to the Giants for the 2019 season and he will remain a Giant should a suitable trade not be reached.”
