SEN Breakfast newsman Sam Edmund has given the latest update on Tom Papley, saying that he is desperate to return back home to Victoria.

Papley is contracted through to 2023, but is reportedly unhappy in Sydney and would like to return back to Melbourne, with personal reasons as his main desire for the move.

“Tom Papley was so unhappy at Sydney last year that he questioned whether he wanted to continue playing the game,” Edmund told SEN Breakfast.

“His desperation to force a move to a Melbourne based club is underpinned by a desire to get out of Australia’s biggest city and there’s a family concern there as well.

“He wants to get closer to his family who are in Bunyip. He’s really close to his younger brother, his girlfriend lives in Melbourne as well.

“Carlton is seen to be the opportunistic swoopers because Tom doesn’t really care who he plays for.

“He just wants to get back to Melbourne.”

Edmund added that Papley could potentially walk away from the game if a trade back to Melbourne can't be facilitated, but that is unclear at the moment.

“They don’t know at the moment. A lot of things have to change up there in Sydney,” he said.

“The living arrangements were a big problem for Tom up there. The way it was described to me he was mostly left to his own devices, he was isolated, the people he was living with weren’t a great fit.”

Earlier in the week, it was reported that Papley had chosen Carlton as his preferred destination. North Melbourne are another team also reportedly interested in his services.
